Firefighters battling flames and heat at laundromat fire in Ferguson FERGUSON, Mo. - Fire crews from multiple departments rushed to Ferguson overnight to battle an intense fire at a laundromat. Crews not only battling the flames, but also the heat.The first call came in for the fire at 'The Laundry Basket' on South Florissant Road around 3:15 a.m. Randy Skaggs, the Assistant Chief for the Ferguson Fire Department, told FOX 2 that when the first crews got to the scene heavy smoke was coming from the building. Not long after, that flames started shooting through the roof.Skaggs said that firefighters went to an exterior operation to surround and drown the fire with water. Crews from some ten different departments responded with the fire going to a second alarm.The heat was a major issue for crews at the scene. Suspect steals golf cart in north St. Louis County armed robbery ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A man is behind bars after he reportedly robbed a golf cart and held a golf club employee at gunpoint earlier this month in north St. Louis County.Prosecutors have charged Kevin Smith, 51, with one count of first-degree robbery and one count of armed criminal action. According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Smith showed a gun before stealing a golf cart at the Normandie Golf Club on July 23, 2023. St. Louis police search for man after child sex crime When a worker approached him, he showed the gun and took off in the golf cart. Within minutes, police found Smith down the street operating a golf cart. Police also recovered the firearm suspected in the robbery. Smith is jailed in St. Louis County on a $100,000 bond. If convicted, he could spend up to life in prison.

SUV plows through Compton bus stop, killing person on bench A person sleeping on a bus stop bench was killed by an out-of-control SUV in Compton early Thursday morning. The solo-vehicle crash was reported around 2:30 a.m. in the 2200 Block of East Rosecrans Avenue near North Harris Avenue. One person was killed when an SUV plowed into a Compton bus stop on July 27, 2023. (KeyNews.TV)The SUV had been traveling eastbound on Rosecrans Avenue when it struck a tree, a bus stop and a fire hydrant before coming to a stop a short distance down the road, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed. One victim, who was apparently sleeping on the bus stop bench, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.
