By SAMY MAGDY (Associated Press)CAIRO (AP) — Emergency workers uncovered hundreds of bodies as they dug through the wreckage of Libya’s eastern city of Derna on Tuesday, and 10,000 people were reported still missing after floodwaters broke through dams and smashed through the city, washing away entire neighborhoods. At least 700 recovered bodies have been buried so far, the health minister for eastern Libya said. Derna’s ambulance authority put the current death toll at 2,300. But the toll is likely to be far higher, in the thousands, said Tamer Ramadan, Libya envoy for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. He told a U.N. briefing in Geneva via videoconference from Tunisia that at least 10,000 people were still missing. The situation in Libya was “as devastating as the situation in Morocco,” Ramadan said, referring to the deadly earthquake that hit near the city of Marrakesh on Friday night. The destruction came to Derna and...Could EU institutional bias sabotage efforts to stop cigarette smoking?

Consultations with pre-determined outcomes are invariably a terrible idea. They are used to provide justification for actions that authorities have already decided to take. It should be obvious that when the European Commission consults stakeholders and the wider public there should be no hint of bias in favour of only wanting to hear the ‘correct’ view. Yet the Commission’s recent consultation on tobacco control suggests that it thinks it already knows the ‘right’ answer to a crucial question, writes Political Editor Nick Powell. The European Commission’s three-month consultation on the evaluation of the legislative framework on tobacco control closed in May and its outcome is awaited. What has become the key issue in discouraging the smoking of cigarettes is the role of alternative tobacco products in getting smokers to give up cigarettes. But it’s hard not to fear that a supposedly in-depth consultation will deliver a superficial answer that conflates smoking with the consumption ...Ways you can use AI to earn money on the side

A Beverly Grove family is concerned for their safety after home surveillance cameras captured a brazen burglar who broke into their home while they were asleep and swiped cash and the family car. The incident occurred Sunday around 3:30 a.m. with the thief jumping a locked gate and wandering around the backyard before slipping inside the home. Rabbi Moshe Nourollah, the homeowner, examined the damage where the thief broke in and said he still can’t believe that someone would do that. “Coming in the middle of the night, bombarding somebody’s house, stealing, that’s insane, you know what I mean?” he told KTLA. The security cameras on the home did not deter the crook, and the family’s alarm system was not activated. “He came in from the back door,” Batya Nourollah said. “Police said he pried open the door, he came inside, took the wallet. He came upstairs where I was sleeping in my bedroom. It's mortifying."It wasn’t until the next day that the Nourollah’s disco...Boy, 12, struck by Metro bus, critically injured
