PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — This is what everyone feared about Oak Hill hosting the PGA Championship in May.Baby, it’s cold. The opening round is being delayed by frost and everyone is being ordered to stay off the lawns. Fairways were covered by a thin layer of frost. Temperatures were right around freezing as dawn broke. The good news for the PGA Championship is it won’t last long. The PGA of America said the first tee time would be 1 hour, 15 minutes after the practice facilities are open. And the weather is expected to get warmer each day the rest of the week.Shaun Micheel is to hit the opening tee shot, an honor afforded the oldest former champion in the field. He won the PGA at Oak Hill in 2003. That was his only PGA Tour win.___AP golf: https://apnews.com/hub/golf and https://twitter.com/AP_SportsSource

MADRID (AP) — Real Madrid is not used to big losses in the Champions League. The “Kings of Europe” are usually the ones rolling past opponents and lifting the trophies at the end.The most successful club with 14 European Cup titles, Madrid had made it to five of the last nine Champions League finals, winning all of them. This time, though, Madrid never had a chance in a 4-0 loss at Manchester City in Wednesday’s second leg of the semifinals, being eliminated 5-1 on aggregate to a team that was superior from the start. The only thing left for Madrid, in addition to praising its rival, was to start assessing what went wrong and planning for what’s ahead.“It was a tough night for us,” said forward Vinícius Júnior, who scored Madrid’s winner against Liverpool in last year’s Champions League final. “We have to learn from what happened in this match so it doesn’t happen again next season. To make it to a semifinal is very difficult and we always make it, that’s not easy for other teams.”With...

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 13:02:35 GMT

LONDON — British and U.S. authorities covered up state involvement in Libor rigging and scapegoated low and middle-ranking bankers, some of whom spent years in jail, a senior Conservative MP told the House of Commons on Thursday.“I am greatly concerned that the Treasury select committee may have been misled by state agencies about the knowledge and involvement of the state in setting false rates,” said David Davis in a point of order in parliament. The former Cabinet minister told the House of Commons he intends to write to the Metropolitan Police to ask them to investigate any potential perjury that took place. “There is prima facie case to believe that state agencies coerced individuals into perjury that led to false conviction,” he said. The state’s pursuit of Libor traders from 2012 onwards took place amid mass public anger towards banks and bankers for the role they played in the global financial crisis of 2008, which hit economies the world over.
