Kolten Wong hit his first home run for the Mariners before Ty France and Cal Raleigh also went deep against Germán (4-5).“We just kind of came in with a different attitude today,” Wong said. “Guys were aggressive, guys were excited to go out there and compete. AP PHOTOS: In Sri Lanka, fishers suffer as sea erosion destroys homes and beaches IRANAWILA, Sri Lanka (AP) — Ranjith Sunimal Fernando now has a shell of a home at the edge of Sri Lanka’s coast, lost to the sea. Waves lap past the broken walls into damaged, empty rooms.“One night last month, my son went to the bathroom and I suddenly heard him screaming, ‘our house has gone into the sea!’,” said Fernando, a 58-year-old fisher born and raised in Iranawila, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of the capital, Colombo. “I saw parts of my house were already eaten up by the sea and my son coming out of the water, carrying our commode. Our home’s foundation was completely washed out and we were forced to shift further inland.”He salvaged what he could from the wreck of what was once his home — wooden support beams, sections of roof and other building materials — to build another further inland. Others go out to the water to recover items they lost to the sea.Much like the hundreds of other fishing hamlets that dot the coastline, the village of Iranawila suffers f...

(AP) — The Portland Trail Blazers selected guard Scoot Henderson of the NBA G League with the third overall pick in the NBA draft on Thursday night. The selection complicates things a bit for the Blazers, who already have an All-Star guard in Damian Lillard. Known for his tenacity on the court, Henderson could be packaged in a trade if Portland pursues a high-profile veteran to join Lillard. Or, he could replace Lillard if the Blazers decided to rebuild. He could even pair with Lillard in Portland’s backcourt. After the San Antonio Spurs took French teenager Victor Wembanyama with the top pick and the Charlotte Hornets took forward Brandon Miller out of Alabama, Henderson fell to the Blazers with No. 3. Asked what Portland is getting, Henderson said: “Somebody that’s going to come in and attack the basket every single time, put pressure on the defense and play both sides of the floor. And a winner.”Henderson, a 6-foot-2 teenager from Georgia who has been c...
