ANTIOCH — Two young boys from Antioch — one aged 12, one 13 — are dead after a hit-and-run collision late Friday night, authorities said.Antioch police said the fatal, two-vehicle crash happened about 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of W. 6th Street and G Street. The 12- and 13-year-old youths, who were traveling in a blue sedan before the collision, were transported to a hospital where they were later pronounced dead. It is has not been reported who was driving the vehicle.The driver of the other vehicle, described in some reports as a black SUV, fled the scene, according to authorities with the investigations bureau. SANTA CRUZ — A longtime Santa Cruz High School employee may spend Christmas in jail after police arrested him this week at his Westside home on a 2-decade-old juvenile sexual assault charges.Ronald Eugene Salinas, 63, worked as a part-time high school band staffer in 2001 when he allegedly sexually assaulted a student in the school band. A specialized unit of the California Highway Patrol has recovered more than $1 million worth of stolen cosmetics and other merchandise during searches this week in Paramount and Los Angeles, and they arrested a woman allegedly connected to an organized theft ring that targeted retailers across Southern California.The crew has hit a variety of local retailers, including CVS, Sephora, Ulta Beauty, Rite Aid, Nordstrom and the 99 Cents Only store, the CHP said.Brenda Yanez, 48, was arrested on suspicion of multiple charges, including grand theft and possession of stolen property. An ex-Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy who was sentenced to death for fatally shooting a Yorba Linda supermarket manager during a robbery in 1994 died on Wednesday, Dec, 21, in his San Quentin cell, authorities said.Stephen Redd, 78, was found unresponsive in his cell at the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday afternoon and was pronounced dead by medical staff, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. (KRON) – One person is dead after a shooting in Antioch on Friday. Antioch police were dispatched to the 800 block of Sunset Drive due to reports of a shooting around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 22. Two Antioch minors killed in fatal hit-and-run Upon arrival, Antioch officers located a 26-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. According to police, officers and paramedics began rendering first aid. However, the victim succumbed to his injuries.Patrol officers located a suspect nearby and detained him without incident, police said. (BCN) -- A 30-year-old man accused of taking the tools of a construction worker in Milpitas was arrested Friday, police said.The Milpitas Police Department said on its Facebook account that the suspect, who was later identified as a San Jose resident, was traced with the help of the Automated License Plate Reader technology as he was found to be driving a stolen vehicle from San Jose.Police said that within three minutes after the alleged robbery took place around 9:20 a.m., officers arrived and obtained the license plate of the suspect's vehicle, the location of which was simultaneously alerted to them through the ALPR.The vehicle was located within minutes and a pursuit operation ensued reaching the city of Fremont.The suspect was arrested with the assistance of the Fremont police, and the construction worker's tools were returned, the Milpitas police said.Copyright © 2023 Bay City News, Inc.19 residents displaced by apartment fire in Northeast DC
