The Chicago Bears traded wide receiver Chase Claypool to the Miami Dolphins on Friday, ending the 25-year-old’s short and rocky tenure with the franchise. The Bears are sending a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Dolphins with Claypool and will receive a 2025 sixth-round pick in exchange, the teams announced. The deal is pending a physical. In need of more help for quarterback Justin Fields last season, Bears general manager Ryan Poles acquired Claypool from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 1 for a 2023 second-round pick that ended up being the No. 32 pick in the draft.Claypool took a long time to assimilate to the offense in 2022 and totaled just 14 catches for 140 yards in seven games. He had four catches on 14 targets for 51 yards and a touchdown in three games this season. But the Bears parting with him had to do with more than his lack of production on the field. The Bears made Claypool a healthy scratch for their Weeks 4 and 5 games, going so far as to ask him to stay away from...

FOXBORO — Will Grier, just having arrived from the Bengals’ practice squad two weeks ago, isn’t thinking about the Patriots’ quarterback depth chart yet. That’s a good thing because, from the way it sounds, Bill Belichick isn’t ready to move him up over Bailey Zappe to be Mac Jones’ backup quite yet anyway.Belichick did at least entertain the possibility that Grier could eventually ascend up the quarterback pecking order. The Patriots signed Grier, in part, to keep pushing Zappe.Related ArticlesNew England Patriots | Patriots keep practicing with Matthew Judon, Christian Gonzalez on their active roster New England Patriots | Patriots captain notes two recent signings could make impact New England Patriots | Patriots mailbag: Bill Belichick voiced concerning take on offense New England Patriots | Callahan: The Patriots won’t admit it, but Sunday is a must-win game New Englan...

Stock market today: Wall Street finds things to like in nuanced jobs report and swings to gains

Published Wed, 12 Feb 2025 13:10:32 GMT

NEW YORK (AP) — Wall Street is climbing in a whipsaw Friday after looking deeper into the nuances of a surprisingly strong report on the U.S. job market. The S&P 500 was up 0.9% in midday trading after erasing an earlier drop of 0.9%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 255 points, or 0.8%, as of 12:30 p.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite flipped to a gain of 1.2%. Stocks initially tumbled after a report showed U.S. employers added nearly twice as many jobs last month as economists expected. The strength raised worries that a too-hot job market could keep upward pressure on inflation, which in turn could force the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates higher than investors want. Treasury yields leaped following the release of the report, and the yield on the 10-year Treasury again soared to its highest level since 2007. It was at 4.78%, up from 4.72% late Thursday. Wall Street hates high interest rates because they knock down prices for all kinds of investments. And ...
