Dear Abby: My husband’s mandatory family events cut into my hobby time

Published Thu, 06 Mar 2025 16:10:42 GMT

DEAR ABBY: My husband and I have no kids. His family (sister, cousins, etc.) hosts family gatherings two to four times a month. My husband and I both work. My own family does not have many gatherings.I have a hobby I would like to pursue, and I’m considering pursuing it more deeply when I retire. My husband complains that I want to spend what’s left of our weekend on it.I can’t seem to get across to him that although I like his family, I don’t want to see them to the exclusion of my hobbies and our collective interests. He and his parents expect me at all of these events. I go, and when I do, I have a good time, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want time to myself.Unfortunately, my husband isn’t interested in my hobby. There are other activities we do together, although we don’t have a lot of time for them given his family events. How do I get across to him that he should be supportive? Happy Mother’s Day.Bobby Orr became a bronze statue on this holiday in 1970.Fifty-three years later, it’s Jayson Tatum’s turn to give birth to bedlam in Boston with a monumental performance in Game 7 against the Philadelphia 76ers.A victory pushes the Celtics into the NBA Eastern Conference Finals.Need some motivation before tipoff? Celtics cheerleaders toss rose petals. Meanwhile, a PG version of Kendrick Lamar’s “Big Shot” fills the arena. If that doesn’t inspire Deuce Sr. to score at least 2 points in the first half, nothing will.To fire up the masses, Big Papi, Kevin Garnett, Julian Edelman, and Rob Gronkowski then emerge. They each wave a Celtics flag while creating the world’s largest sports book commercial for DraftDuelMGMBet.Finish with some vintage clips from Game 7 of the 1981 ...

Erdogan’s leadership in the balance as Turkey votes in pivotal elections

Published Thu, 06 Mar 2025 16:10:42 GMT

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey is voting Sunday in landmark parliamentary and presidential elections that are expected to be tightly contested and could be the biggest challenge President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has faced in his two decades in power. The vote will either grant the increasingly authoritarian Erdogan a new five-year term in office or set the NATO member country on what his opposition contender calls a more democratic path.Polling began at 8 a.m. (0500 GMT) and will close at 5 p.m. (1400 GMT). Media organizations are barred from reporting partial results until an embargo is lifted at 9 p.m. (1800 GMT). There are no exit polls. For the first time in his 20 years in office, opinion polls indicate that the populist Erdogan, 69, is entering a race trailing behind an opponent. Opinion surveys have given a slight lead to Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the 74-year-old leader of the center-left, pro-secular Republican People’s Party, or CHP, and the joint candidate of a united opposition allian...
