NY bill could protect unmarked Native American burial sites ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) -- New York is one four states without statutory protection for Native American burial sites, but new legislation could change that. Similar legislation passed in both houses last year, but was vetoed by the Governor. Hochul said the bill did not fairly balance the rights of property owners and families of native descendants.  Reaction to Native American mascot ban "We’re trying to say, hold on, let’s just try to sort out whose bones these are and whether they need to be repatriated… if a developer or property owner discovers the remains on their land, that they have to go through a certain process and that’s what this law was all about," said Native activist, John Kane. The legislation would require developers and builders to halt their projects upon discovering human remains or funeral objects and report It to the local coroner. Two men shot in a Downtown St. Louis parking lot ST. LOUIS -- Two men were shot in a Downtown St. Louis parking garage Thursday evening. They escaped with their lives. An East St. Louis woman shot Wednesday was not so lucky.Two men were on the third floor of the parking garage located at North 10th Street and St. Charles Thursday when they were approached by a man. He fired shots at them, striking one man in the arm and the other man in a leg. Air quality improving in California, but still worst in the nation, report shows The American Lung Association has released its annual ‘State of the Air’ report, and the news isn’t good for California.Golden State cities swept the top spot in all three pollution categories: ozone, year-round particulate matter (PM), and short-term particulate matter - all of which come largely from man-made sources like vehicles, factories and refineries.Natural sources include forest fires and volcanoes.The Los Angeles-Long Beach metro area ranked #1 again with the most high ozone days of the 227 metropolitan areas that were ranked.
