ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Damar Hamlin turned and pointed to the glass-enclosed booth above the end zone tunnel of Highmark Stadium and recalled the last time he attended a Buffalo Bills home game.“Right up there,” the Bills safety said following the team’s annual “Red and Blue” practice inside the stadium. “It was an emotional day. I felt the love then.”The setting last week provided Hamlin a chance to reflect on the excitement he felt attending the Bills’ loss to the Bengals in an AFC playoff game on Jan. 22. Raising his arms to urge on a cheering crowd through an open window on a snowy afternoon, it marked Hamlin’s celebrated first public appearance some three weeks after his near-death experience during a regular season game in Cincinnati. The moment also stirred emotions of uncertainty Hamlin experienced about his future. Some seven months later, the 25-year-old is preparing to take the next major step in his efforts to resum...

All-Pro CB Pat Surtain II, RB Javonte Williams among short list of Broncos not playing in preseason opener

Published Wed, 12 Feb 2025 09:56:10 GMT

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Gone are the days, officially, of Denver sitting swaths of players for the preseason. The Broncos dress list Friday night here reflected that new reality under coach Sean Payton. In fact, the only players out of 90 on the roster who did not dress for the team’s preseason opener against Arizona were those dealing with issues that kept them out or limited in practice. That list: cornerbacks Riley Moss (core muscle) and Art Green, safety Justin Simmons (groin), right tackle Mike McGlinchey (knee), tight end Chris Manhertz, wide receiver Brandon Johnson (ankle) and outside linebackers Frank Clark and Aaron Patrick. Not everybody that dressed played, however. All-Pro cornerback Pat Surtain II and nickel K’Waun Williams, who had missed practice time this week, did not play with the starting defense.Running back Javonte Williams went through warmups with the other running backs, but didn’t have a brace on his knee and only watched from the sideline. Samaje Perine got t...

Published Wed, 12 Feb 2025 09:56:10 GMT

SAN FRANCISCO — It’s rare to see a crowd gathered around the visiting dugout before first pitch. But for Bruce Bochy, fans arrived early toting signs and cheering his name hoping to catch their beloved former manager’s attention Friday night. Then they gave him a long standing ovation when Bochy was announced with starting lineup. For the first time since 2019, Bochy was back at Oracle Park. For the first time since 2006, his last with the San Diego Padres before joining the Giants in 2007, Bochy managed from the visitor’s dugout.“I’ve had some rough games here, too. I’ll add that,” he said. ‘Who Let the Dogs Out,’ heard that a couple times here.”That’s a throwback: In the early days of then-Pac Bell Park, when the Giants led at the top of the ninth, the speakers would blast funeral bells leading into a rousing rendition of the Baha Men’s classic song. It serves as a reminder of how much of baseball’s...
